People Talk Crap And It Makes Me Happy, Here's Why
I'm sure you've been there before, you're minding your own business and there is someone walking by who makes fun of how you look, talk, or what you're doing. It's infuriating, or in some cases damaging to our emotional being. You don't have to hear it from me to know this is a MAJOR deal.
Sometimes, it's so bad, we don't even know what the voices are saying, but we're almost certain it's about us. We've been hurt so often in the past by this sort of thing, your body just wants to get defensive instantly, so you won't have to take anymore of it.
Or maybe, you send an email or application to a job position and you don't get a response. You feel dumb and you ask yourself, “how did I mess this up? I thought I was qualified for the position for that job, or maybe it was a message to a friend, and you think, “I thought we were close, why haven't they responded to me yet?”
It can drive you insane. I know it did me and I'm not sure about you, but I've dealt with this a lot. Like all the time...
However, there's hope
I've recently discovered something that's helped me immensely and I wanted to share it with you.
Keep in mind, there's a lot to this and it's difficult for me to cover it with just this article.
The basics is this...
The best thing you can do, is when you don't know the reason, assume the reason has nothing to do with you.
Sounds too simple? Sounds too silly? Maybe.
But, when you hear voices as you walk by, they aren't saying negative things about you, they are complimenting you. I mean perhaps they are being mean, but what do you know? You can't really hear what they are actually saying. It sure does make you feel a lot better to be assuming they are complimenting you.
Hell, when I'm working my retail job and a customer ignores me and doesn't pay me ANY attention and rushes out the store, what I do, instead of assuming he's being rude is I assume he has to poop really REALLY bad, which makes me feel a lot better. It may be true and hey, I'm not going to blame a guy for not saying bye to me, if he's having to run to the restroom or else destroy his pants and his pride.
Or if you message a friend and they don't get back to you, maybe it's just them running late to work, or maybe an accident happened. You don't know, so you don't have to assume the worst.
Assume the best and focus on yourself. Really, the voices don't matter, or rather, shouldn't.
If you're taking care of yourself, it's not going to matter if “Rick” doesn't respond to you, because you're working on yourself, you're having fun, and doing other things.
I hope this helps! There's actually a lot to dive to here and it can be hard keeping this short, so I'm going to wrap this up here and possibly talk more on this specific subject in the future.
