Cartoon Network Crossover Crisis Game Review

Imagine my delight on Christmas when I open a package from my girlfriend's parents and its Cartoon Network Crossover Crisis! It's a great gift for me, given I'm a fan of Cryptozoic AND of course Cartoon Network... or at least a sizable proportion of their shows.

The Good

The game allows you to play as several "Heroes" from different shows, spanning from Johnny Bravo to the more modern Adventure Time Fin and Jake.

The game looks clearly made by fans of these shows.

The "Muscle Man" event card played out wonderful true to the character. It had me tell a "my mom" joke and then it encouraged players to hi-five me by discarding a card from their hand as a reward. So, they all groaned and hi-fived me reluctantly, to then only realize they shouldn't have hi-fived me, so they could discard a weakness from their hand that was going to mess their turn up! This is Muscle Man at his finest, trolling everyone and doing it twice with one card!

The Bad

Some cards penalized you for saying certain words for the remainder of the game. While this did cause humorous interactions, it ended up stifling us by making us feel like it'd be better to not talk in order to not gain weakness. Our suggestion would be to make the duration of these effects last until the current Nemesis is defeated.

The Weird

The line-up seemed well liked among my group, except there was the weird inclusion of a show called "Clarence"? I don't know, never even heard of it. I'd much prefer Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Codename: Kids Next Door, Ed, Edd, and Eddy, Powerpuff Girls or Ben 10.

I seriously feel like Clarence was put into this game because one of the game designers loves the show.

The Verdict: Z

Amazing! If this game had replaced Clarence with one of the other mentioned shows and limited the duration of the "speech" effects, then I'd no doubt put this at a V (Vindicated Approved). Although, while there's some odd choices in the game, it hits almost every mark anywhere between sufficiently or superbly. This is a great game for fans of cartoons, especially Cartoon Network fans.
